Ornaments: I Love What I Do
I want to share a little part of the artist's work as a job. My oldest son, Joren Smith posted a video that sums up why I make art. It said that we are here to do more than a "job". We are not born into this world to do only work we don't enjoy. We should be doing what fills us with joy and makes us truly happy, as opposed to just existing to get up each day to make a pay check. Yes, we need to pay the bills, (trust me, I know...) but there is more to life, and somehow, we sh

Beyond the Lupine
Sometimes you paint something that remains close to your heart for many years. You won't see me paint a lighthouse too often, so this is rare for me, but it was just the perfect day, out with all of my kids on a drive to P-Town to explore (cheap entertainment with 5 kids!!). The Coreopsis and Lupine were in full bloom, the light was clear, and the air was warm and gentle. I can remember the day, like it was yesterday. I think it was in early July. I kept this piece for severa

Snow Shadows
Yesterday, I was chatting with my friend, Peter Nielsen in my studio about inspiration. He brought to my attention that so many times people are only looking in one direction. They don't look up, they don't look down. They don't REALLY see the beauty in the world. My view of the world as an artist, is different. Artists see the color in a shadow, the way a twisting tree grows from the earth, the warm light touching the snow, or the true colors in skin. In my paintings, I am b

Depth & Layers
One of the things I enjoy painting the most is water. I love moving water, see through water, water with sun dancing on it.... There is something about the magic of making a 2 dimensional surface into something with depth and layers, something that carries a viewer's imagination to other places.... LOVE that!!! #odinsmithfineart #odinsmith #capecodartists #DepthLayers

Quiet Moment Between Friends
Aside from all of the wonderful friends I have in my life, there are few things I love more than my family, pets, my home and my art...and maybe my car..lol. This painting has all of those elements, except the car. There is always a peaceful theme to my work and I rarely put figures into my paintings, but if I do, they are meaningful. This quiet moment was shared by my son, Shaydon, and my dog, Finn, taking in the setting sun over our back yard pond. I am so grateful to have

Nauset Camps Fading Away
This painting is of the camps that were left after the new break formed and separated them from the mainland off Nauset Beach. I created this low light version as a response to the way they were slowly disappearing, fading away. So many of us had memories of the beach and camps out there, and I wanted to hold this vision in a painting so it wouldn't be forgotten.
